England’s National Cancer Plan: What’s Coming and Why C the Signs Matters

The UK government is preparing to unveil a long-awaited National Cancer Plan for England, currently due to be published in the second half of 2025 following the release of the 10‑Year Health Plan.   This marks a pivotal moment in reshaping how cancer is addressed - from prevention and diagnosis through to treatment, living with the disease, and aftercare.

Significant groundwork has already been laid: in February 2025, the Department of Health and Social Care launched a call for evidence to gather insights from the public, healthcare professionals, and charities. This consultation ran until April 29, 2025 and has attracted thousands of submissions - from individuals, non-profits, and cancer communities - to shape the Plan’s design and priorities across prevention, early diagnosis, research, and beyond.

What to Expect from the Upcoming National Cancer Plan

Contributions from organisations like Macmillan Cancer Support, Blood Cancer UK, and CancerWatch emphasize that the plan must deliver:

  • Bold prevention strategies, including tackling lifestyle risks like alcohol, obesity, and tobacco.
  • A strengthened focus on early detection, such as rolling out lung screening and self-sampling for cervical screening.
  • Equitable care pathways and support for all cancer types, including seldom-discussed areas like blood or brain cancers.
  • A joined-up, patient-first approach spanning prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and survivorship.

Why This Matters - And Where C the Signs Fits In

At C the Signs, we share the ambition behind the National Cancer Plan: earlier, smarter, more inclusive cancer care. As an MHRA Class I medical device used in primary care, our platform harnesses AI to help GPs spot patients at risk of cancer sooner - often before clear symptoms emerge.

  • It improves risk detection sensitivity and accuracy in tumor origin prediction.
  • It supports timely referrals without adding pressure to clinicians’ workloads.
  • It aligns with the Plan’s priorities: early intervention, use of cutting-edge digital tools, equitable access, and a shift from reactive to proactive care.

By spotlighting where C the Signs can complement the national strategy, the Plan can move further-and faster-toward its goal of diagnosing more cancers at treatable stages and saving lives.

Looking Ahead

With the National Cancer Plan expected in late 2025, this is a critical moment:

  • The government must now translate consultation insights into actionable policy, backed by clear timelines and targeted funding.
  • As stakeholders - including technology innovators like C the Signs - prepare to support these ambitions, collaboration and alignment will be key to turning the Plan into real-world impact.

The National Cancer Plan for England provides the framework; now it requires action and innovation to deliver on its promise. At C the Signs, we believe cancer doesn’t have to be a death sentence. With the right technology, patients can be diagnosed earlier, treated faster, and given back the power over their own health.

This is not about fighting cancer - it’s about changing the story of cancer. From fear to empowerment. From late diagnosis to early intervention. From inequity to universal access.

The government has set the vision. Together, with platforms like C the Signs, we can make it a reality.
